{"id":7,"date":"2016-09-12T19:29:02","date_gmt":"2016-09-12T19:29:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/?page_id=7"},"modified":"2018-12-22T22:16:09","modified_gmt":"2018-12-22T22:16:09","slug":"motorcycle-travels","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/index.php\/motorcycle-travels\/","title":{"rendered":"Motorcycle Travels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Click on the trip name to access\u00a0the photo galleries.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><em><a style=\"color: #ff9900;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.traynorphoto.com\/arizona2005\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Arizona 2005<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-42 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/grandcanyon-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"grandcanyon\" width=\"390\" height=\"260\" srcset=\"https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/grandcanyon-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/grandcanyon-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/grandcanyon.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 390px) 100vw, 390px\" \/>May of 2005 was the beginning of our motorcycle travels. \u00a0This was our first overnight trip by motorcycle. \u00a0However, we did cheat a bit on this one. \u00a0Valerie and I, along with two other couples, flew to Phoenix. \u00a0 Once there, we rented bikes, one\u00a0Harley and two Goldwings, \u00a0to use for the next 5 days touring up to the Grand Canyon. \u00a0We were rookies at motorcycle touring, but it turned out to be a great trip which sowed the seeds for future trips.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.traynorphoto.com\/co2006\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong><em>Colorado-Wyoming-South Dakota 2006<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-79 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/rmnpentrance-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"rmnpentrance\" width=\"344\" height=\"229\" srcset=\"https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/rmnpentrance-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/rmnpentrance-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/rmnpentrance.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 344px) 100vw, 344px\" \/>In 2005, Valerie and I were bitten by the &#8220;motorcycle touring bug.&#8221; \u00a0At least I was. \u00a0So towards the end of the 2005 riding season, I upgraded to a tour bike, a Yamaha Venture. \u00a0I then began planning our first big tour. \u00a0This was our first real long ride, and we were doing it alone. \u00a0We tried our best to stay off of interstates. \u00a0We headed west through Missouri and Kansas to our first destination, Colorado. \u00a0Once in Colorado, we rode through the ski areas of Dillon and Breckenridge on our way to Rocky Mountain National Park. \u00a0From there, we went through Estes Park and on to Loveland. \u00a0We then turned north toward Cheyenne and on through Wyoming to the Black Hills of South Dakota. \u00a0We spent a few days touring that area and then started back east through South Dakota and Minnesota, where we stopped for a couple of days in Rochester, to visit friends. \u00a0I must say we were very lucky as rookie tour bikers. \u00a0The total trip was about 4000 miles, and we had zero problems along the way. \u00a0We were hooked.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.traynorphoto.com\/helen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong><em>Helen, GA 2006<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-78 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/helen-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"helen\" width=\"343\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/helen-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/helen.jpg 665w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 343px) 100vw, 343px\" \/>This was a weekend ride with a group of neighbors and friends, which from then on, became known as the Crosswoods Cruisers. We rode down to Helen, Georgia, also known as Little Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><a style=\"color: #ff9900;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.traynorphoto.com\/glacier2007\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Glacier National Park 2007<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-44 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/glacier-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"glacier\" width=\"445\" height=\"334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/glacier-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/glacier-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/glacier.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 445px) 100vw, 445px\" \/>After the great trip Valerie and I had in 2006 to Colorado, Wyoming and South Dakota, all of our riding buddies decided to join us on this trip. \u00a0The ladies flew in and out of Jackson Hole, WY. \u00a0The guys all left a couple of days before them. \u00a0We had 7 bikes on this trip. \u00a0Six of us left from Lexington and met the 7th in St. Louis. \u00a0This trip\u00a0was quite an adventure. \u00a0I managed to have 2 flat tires on this trip. \u00a0One on the Unigo trailer and a rear tire on the bike. \u00a0I also lost a very expensive camera and lens (uninsured). \u00a0It was nice having all of the support with me. \u00a0From Jackson, we rode a clockwise loop through Yellowstone, on up to the west entrance to Glacier NP. \u00a0From there we turned east and took the &#8220;Going to the Sun&#8221; highway through the park. \u00a0We then dropped back down to Red Lodge, MT and then took Beartooth Pass back to Cooke City and the east entrance to Yellowstone, and then returned to Jackson. \u00a0This was one of our favorite trips.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><a style=\"color: #ff9900;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.traynorphoto.com\/utah2008\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Utah 2008<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-46 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/utah-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"utah\" width=\"434\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/utah-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/utah-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/utah.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 434px) 100vw, 434px\" \/>After the success with the Glacier trip in 2007, we had a nice group on the trip to Utah in 2008. \u00a0The ladies flew in and out of Grand Junction, CO. \u00a0We met them there and continued on to Arches, Zion, Cedar Breaks\u00a0and\u00a0Bryce Canyon National Parks. \u00a0We also went through Monument Valley. \u00a0Along the way, we stopped in Page, AZ and took a boat tour on Lake Powell. \u00a0This is an area we need to return to again.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><a style=\"color: #ff9900;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.traynorphoto.com\/fripp2009\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Fripp Island 2009<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>For our trip in 2009, we decided to stay a little closer to home. \u00a0We rented a house on Fripp Island in South Carolina. \u00a0From there we were able to visit Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA \u00a0On this trip, we traveled with Barb and John and joined up with their friend Debbie. \u00a0There was a lot of great seafood in this area.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.traynorphoto.com\/tnva2009\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong><em>TN-VA-NC 2009<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/tnva-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"tnva\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/tnva-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/tnva-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/tnva.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>This was a weekend ride with our friends to the area where TN, VA and NC meet. \u00a0It&#8217;s a beautiful area for a weekend ride.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.traynorphoto.com\/sikeston2009\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><em><strong>Sikeston, MO 2009<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-75 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sk09-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"sk09\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sk09-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sk09-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sk09.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This was just a dinner ride to Lambert&#8217;s Cafe in Sikeston, MO. \u00a0We rode to Sikeston and had dinner. \u00a0The next day we rode to Nashville via the Dorena-Hickman Ferry. \u00a0It was a fun weekend trip.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><a style=\"color: #ff9900;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.traynorphoto.com\/nmco2010\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>New Mexico-Colorado-Wyoming-South Dakota 2010<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-48 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/CO-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"co\" width=\"369\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/CO-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/CO-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/traynorphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/CO.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 369px) 100vw, 369px\" \/>On this trip, we rode in a clockwise loop through Arkansas and Oklahoma and picked up I-40 across Texas into New Mexico. \u00a0We picked Valerie and Teresa up in Albuquerque. \u00a0From there we ventured to Santa Fe and then on to Durango. \u00a0From Durango, we took the &#8220;Million Dollar Highway&#8221; over the mountain with stops in\u00a0several of the mountain towns like Silverton, Telluride and Ouray. \u00a0We made our way on to Dillon and then through the Rocky Mountain National Park with a stop in Estes Park. \u00a0From there, we dropped Teresa at the Denver airport and then continued on north into Wyoming and South Dakota to visit the Black Hills area, along with Mt. \u00a0a very nice log cabin lodge made up of cabin duplexes that cater to bikers. \u00a0On Saturday, we rode across the Cherohala Skyway to Robbinsville, NC. \u00a0Then we rode north on 129 through Deal&#8217;s Gap, the &#8220;Tail of the Dragon.&#8221;
